Description
Holy Smoke Bluestem is a stunning native ornamental grass that brings dramatic color and texture to the landscape throughout the growing season. Its upright, spreading habit features fine, grassy foliage that emerges gray-green in spring before maturing to rich green in summer. As temperatures cool, the foliage transforms into brilliant shades of burgundy, deep purple, and rosy pink, creating a spectacular fall display. Showy plum-purple seed heads rise above attractive red stems from late summer into early fall, adding even more seasonal interest. Holy Smoke Bluestem is an excellent choice for creating vertical accents, natural screens, and colorful perennial borders.
Thriving in full sun, Holy Smoke Bluestem is drought tolerant once established and adapts to a wide range of soil conditions. This hardy, low-maintenance native grass grows up to 5 feet tall and 2 feet wide, making it ideal for mass plantings, privacy screens, and prairie-inspired landscapes. Its tolerance for dry conditions, environmental salt, and urban pollution makes it a dependable choice for challenging garden spaces. With its impressive height, colorful foliage, and graceful seed heads, Holy Smoke Bluestem provides lasting beauty and structure to sunny gardens.
