Description
The Jiro Persimmon (Diospyros kaki 'Jiro') is a prized variety known for its sweet, seedless, non-astringent fruit that can be enjoyed right off the tree. Popular in Japan and beloved by home gardeners, Jiro produces large, flattened, golden-orange persimmons with crisp, juicy flesh—ideal for fresh eating or culinary use.
This self-pollinating, deciduous tree thrives in full sun and well-draining sandy soil, reaching up to 20 feet tall and wide. Its naturally rounded form makes it both a productive fruit tree and an attractive landscape feature. Blooming in spring and fruiting from late summer to early fall, the Jiro Persimmon is hardy in Zones 6–9 and a dependable performer in backyard orchards.
