Description
Eranthis cilicica Winter Aconite brings one of the earliest bursts of color to gardens with bright yellow, cup-shaped flowers. These cheerful blooms can emerge in late winter, even through snow. Additionally, deeply lobed green bracts frame each flower and create beautiful contrast. As a result, this deer-resistant perennial brightens gardens when few other plants are flowering. It works especially well beneath deciduous trees and shrubs, as well as in rock gardens and woodland settings. Furthermore, Eranthis cilicica Winter Aconite grows 3 to 4 inches tall and thrives in full sun to partial shade. It prefers moist, humus-rich, well-drained soil for healthy growth and reliable flowering. For best results, plant tubers 2 to 3 inches deep and 3 to 4 inches apart in fall. Over time, the plants can spread into golden drifts and return year after year in Zones 4-9.
