Description
Balsam Fir is a classic evergreen tree with a tall, pyramidal shape and soft, dark green needles. Its rich green foliage holds its color through winter, providing beauty all year. Smooth gray bark adds extra interest as the tree matures. Native to parts of North America, this graceful conifer makes an attractive vertical accent in larger landscapes.
Balsam Fir grows best in full sun to part sun and prefers cool, sheltered locations. It thrives in moist to wet, sandy, acidic soil and should not be allowed to dry out. Avoid planting it in exposed, windy areas or locations with heavy urban pollution. This slow-growing evergreen needs little pruning and can reach about 50 feet tall and 20 feet wide at maturity.
