Description

Inspired by 17th-century Dutch pottery, 'Delft Blue' Love-In-A-Mist features delicate white petals streaked with violet-blue and burgundy stamen. This drought-tolerant annual is easy to grow, ideal for borders or pollinator gardens, and adds an airy elegance to bouquets. As blooms fade, striking deep-purple seed pods appear, perfect for dried arrangements.

Family: Ranunculaceae, Buttercup family, includes columbine, clematis, delphinium, and love-in-a-mist.
Native: Southwest Europe and Northern Africa
Hardiness: Annual
Exposure: Full sun. Will withstand part shade.
Bloom Period: Summer to frost; extreme heat may pause bloom production.
Plant Dimensions: 24″ –36″ tall, 9″–12″ wide
Variety Info: 1 ½”–2″ wide, white petals with violet-blue streaks.

When to Sow Outside: RECOMMENDED. 2 to 4 weeks before your average last frost date. For continual bloom, sow every 2 to 4 weeks after initial sowing until midsummer. Also sow in early fall for very early spring bloom.
When to Start Inside: Not recommended; seedlings are sensitive to transplant disturbance.
Days to Emerge: 10 – 15 days
Seed Depth: Barely cover
Seed Spacing: A group of 3 seeds every 8″
Thinning: When 1″ tall, thin to 1 every 8″

Harvesting: For longest vase life, harvest flowers in the morning when fully open. For dried pods, let seed pods form, then clip and hang upside down in a warm, dry location out of bright light, for about 2 weeks.
Special Care: Remove spent flowers to prolong bloom period and prevent re-seeding unless you want the attractive seed pods for arrangements.
