Description

The Holly – Japanese Hoogendorn (Ilex crenata 'Hoogendorn') is a cold-hardy evergreen shrub prized for its low-growing, compact habit and refined appearance. Its flattened, dark green leaves closely resemble boxwood, making it an excellent alternative for foundation plantings, shrub borders, or low hedges. With a mature size of just 3 feet tall and 4 feet wide, Hoogendorn brings structure and year-round interest to any landscape.

Thriving in zones 6–9, this hardy shrub prefers well-drained soil and regular watering, and adapts well to both full sun and part shade. Its dense vase-shaped growth form and evergreen foliage retain their richness through the winter, offering reliable color and texture all year long. Subtle spring flowers may appear, but Hoogendorn’s standout feature is its lush, tidy form—ideal for formal or naturalistic garden settings.

Each plant comes in a #7 (7 gallon) growers container. The image shown represents an example of what you may receive. Please note that the height, shape, and fullness of each plant may vary due to natural growth patterns. Rest assured, we will select the healthiest and most vibrant plant for you.
