Description
Dollarweed, or Hydrocotyle umbellata, is a hardy native perennial perfect for moist, low-lying areas in Massachusetts. Its glossy, round green leaves resemble silver dollars, forming a vibrant, creeping groundcover in wet soils. Dollarweed flourishes in ditches, swamps, and rain gardens, and it even tolerates shallow standing water. From late spring to fall, this unique plant adds lush greenery to any water-wise landscape.
As a versatile groundcover, Dollarweed spreads by creeping roots, making it excellent for erosion control and natural areas. Dollarweed is also a wildlife-friendly choice—its seeds are enjoyed by ducks and other waterfowl. Whether planted along ponds, in wet meadows, or in containers near patios, Dollarweed enhances biodiversity while offering low-maintenance beauty. It’s a smart, sustainable option for challenging wet spots.
