Description
Bayberry – Northern (Myrica pensylvanica) is a hardy, deciduous shrub prized for its adaptability and distinctive winter interest. With its upright, mounding form, this native plant reaches up to 9 feet tall and 8 feet wide, making it ideal for borders, mass plantings, or naturalized areas. In May, it produces inconspicuous blooms followed by clusters of small, waxy gray berries that cling to the branches through winter, adding texture and subtle charm to your cold-season landscape.
Thriving in full to partial sun, Bayberry – Northern tolerates a range of soil conditions, including poor, sandy, or gravelly sites, and is particularly well-suited for zones 3–8. Its slightly aromatic foliage and suckering habit make it excellent for erosion control and habitat gardens. The berries are traditionally used in candle-making, adding a functional benefit to this ornamental native shrub. For best results, plant in slightly acidic, well-drained soil with organic matter and water regularly.
Each plant comes in a #7 (7 gallon) growers container. The image shown represents an example of what you may receive. Please note that the height, shape, and fullness of each plant may vary due to natural growth patterns. Rest assured, we will select the healthiest and most vibrant plant for you.
