Description

Walnut – Eastern Black (Juglans nigra) is a grand and stately native tree known for its fast growth, towering presence, and valuable edible nuts. This massive deciduous tree features lush, dark green compound leaves that provide light, airy shade and create a fern-like texture in the landscape. In fall, the foliage turns golden yellow, while deeply furrowed black bark and broad, rounded form offer year-round character. In autumn, it bears large, brown oblong nuts with rich, oily flesh prized for baking and fresh eating—though the tough shells and potential lawn litter mean this tree is best suited to large open spaces.

Eastern Black Walnut thrives in full sun and well-drained soil and is highly adaptable to a range of conditions. This long-lived species—reaching heights of 70 feet or more—makes an outstanding shade tree for parks, homesteads, or expansive properties. Its wood is exceptionally valuable, and its nuts attract squirrels and wildlife. Keep clear of powerlines and smaller yards, and plant with future generations in mind. Native to North America and known to live over 120 years, this is a legacy tree in every sense.

Each plant comes in a #3 (3 gallon) growers container. The image shown represents an example of what you may receive. Please note that the height, shape, and fullness of each plant may vary due to natural growth patterns. Rest assured, we will select the healthiest and most vibrant plant for you.
