Description

Spicebush (Lindera benzoin) is an underused yet captivating deciduous shrub, prized for its seasonal interest and wildlife-friendly nature. In early spring, clusters of delicate lemon-yellow flowers bloom along bare branches, offering a cheerful burst of color before the leaves emerge. As the season progresses, aromatic green foliage adds texture and fragrance to the garden, turning a brilliant golden yellow in fall. Bright red berries follow, attracting birds and pollinators while adding ornamental value.

This rounded, multi-stemmed shrub grows up to 10 feet tall and wide and thrives in full sun to full shade, making it remarkably versatile for woodland edges, native gardens, or shady borders. Spicebush prefers consistently moist, well-draining soil and benefits from minimal pruning, only after flowering. It is deer-resistant, low-maintenance, and ideal for naturalized settings, providing year-round beauty with very little fuss.

Each plant comes in a #3 (3 gallon) growers container. The image shown represents an example of what you may receive. Please note that the height, shape, and fullness of each plant may vary due to natural growth patterns. Rest assured, we will select the healthiest and most vibrant plant for you.
