In 1896, Buffalo Soldiers road modified bikes 1,900 miles from Fort Missoula, MT to St. Louis, MO. Modern mountain biking originated in Marin County, where enthusiasts modified cruiser bikes to ride on Mount Tamalpais. Make sure to wear your helmet and gloves before you hit the trails!
