Description
Chinese Chestnut is a hardy, fast-growing tree known for its spreading canopy and delicious, edible nuts. Often grown as a reliable alternative to the American chestnut, this variety is resistant to chestnut blight and produces a generous fall harvest of sweet nuts perfect for roasting. Its broad, rounded shape also makes it an excellent shade tree for larger landscapes.
Thriving in full sun with well-drained soil, Chinese Chestnut is a tough and adaptable tree that performs well in a variety of conditions. In late spring, it produces unique, creamy flower spikes, followed by nut-filled burrs in fall. While fallen nuts can create some seasonal clean-up, the tree’s productivity and resilience make it a valuable addition to home orchards and edible landscapes.
